About Anne

A storyteller at heart, Anne Pinto-Rodrigues is enthused by ‘stories’ in all their various forms. She wears many hats – author, journalist, photographer, editor, communications consultant, and more.

Since 2019, Anne has worked as an independent journalist, reporting on human rights, Indigenous wisdom in addressing impacts of climate change, terrestrial and marine conservation, plastic pollution, and other topics that either fascinate or confront her. In many cases, these topics intersect. Prior to 2019, Anne worked in the corporate sector in India, the US, and Singapore, for well over a decade.

With an undergraduate degree in Life sciences and Biochemistry, an MBA in Finance, and her interest in indigenous communities and traditional knowledge, Anne delves into a wide range of social and environmental issues. She often focuses on solutions, and aims to drive change, one story at a time.

To date, Anne has reported from 15+ countries, with her work published in The GuardianScience NewsCS MonitorYes! MagazineSmithsonianNikkei AsiaSierraCNN TravelSouth China Morning Post, and others. You can read most of Anne’s recent work here.

She has lived in India, the US, Singapore, and the Netherlands, and has also spent a considerable amount of time in southeast Asia and in the Indian Ocean region. Her world view and work is shaped by her observations and experiences in these places. She speaks several Indian and European languages.

In 2015, while living in Singapore, Anne researched and authored the first-ever book about the decorative tiles seen in the heritage precincts of the city. This book briefly traces the history of tiles from 6,000 years ago to modern day Singapore.
